Cooking for Change: Food Production Program
Food for Change is an inclusive program where women from refugee backgrounds and people living with a disability come together to learn, grow, and create delicious meals. Working side by side, they prepare a variety of cultural dishes that are showcased at ABB’s weekly Saturday events and through catering services for other organisations, including SSI’s Women and Children’s Program, Sazman Hamyari, and the HamAva Women’s Group. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with ABB’s food and refreshments described as fantastic and full of heart.
This project wasn’t possible without the grant from Cumberland City Council Community Grant.

It revolved around incorporates the popular herb blend in Persian cuisine, ‘sabzi khordan,’ serving a dual purpose within our initiative: empowering individuals through accessible training, fostering community connections, providing healthy salads for our weekly events, and offering a fundraising opportunity for ABB. The collaborative process involves cleaning, preparing, labelling, and packaging these herbs under the supervision of two of our members who hold Food Safety Supervision certificates. Ultimately, the initiative aims to address isolation and distress by providing meaningful training and employment pathways for our underrepresented members. **Ability Beyond Boundaries – Food for Change Program**
